**Xiaomi AI Glasses** (小米AI眼镜) are display-less camera-and-audio [AI glasses](/wiki/ai_glasses) made by [Xiaomi](/wiki/xiaomi), announced and put on sale in China on 26 June 2025 at 1,999 RMB (roughly $296 at the exchange rate of late July 2026) and, as of 2 August 2026, still sold only in mainland China [1][3]. They weigh 40 grams without lenses, pair a [Qualcomm](/wiki/qualcomm) [Snapdragon AR1](/wiki/snapdragon_ar1) with a Bestechnic BES2700H low-power companion chip, carry a 12-megapixel first-person camera, and are driven by voice through Xiaomi's Super XiaoAI assistant plus a shutter button and touchpad on one temple, with every answer returned as audio because there is no screen of any kind [1][2][6]. Analysts place the product among the largest sellers in its category: Omdia ranked Xiaomi third worldwide in AI glasses shipments for 2025, behind [Meta](/wiki/meta_ray_ban_ai) and [Rokid](/wiki/rokid), and IDC gave Xiaomi 3.1% of global smart glasses shipments in the first quarter of 2026 [16][18]. Those rankings rest on incompatible definitions of the market, and Xiaomi's own position looks very different depending on which one is used.

## Development and launch

Reports that Xiaomi was building camera glasses with the contract manufacturer Goertek, targeting a second-quarter 2025 release, circulated from November 2024 [4][22]. Xiaomi teased the product on 25 June 2025 as a "personal smart device for the next generation" [4]. Li Chuangqi, who led the project, later said it had been approved personally by founder and chief executive Lei Jun [7].

The glasses were unveiled the following evening at Xiaomi's Human x Car x Home ecosystem event in Beijing, alongside the Xiaomi YU7 and a run of wearables [1]. Xiaomi had built head-worn products before, including Mijia audio glasses, a wireless AR headset and a 2021 MicroLED concept called the Smart Glasses Explorer Edition, but this was the first aimed squarely at the category Meta's Ray-Ban line created [2].

## Hardware

IT之家 obtained a unit at launch and published a hands-on the next morning [2]. Its measurements and Xiaomi's claims diverge in one place worth noting: Xiaomi quotes 40 grams excluding lenses, while IT之家 weighed 45 grams with plano lenses fitted [2].

| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| On sale | 26 June 2025, China only [1] |
| Weight | 40 g without lenses (Xiaomi); 45 g measured with plano lenses [1][2] |
| Display | None; all output is audio [6] |
| Silicon | Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 with Bestechnic BES2700H for low-power audio [2][3] |
| Camera | 12 MP, [Sony](/wiki/sony) IMX681; 2,304 x 1,728 video with electronic stabilisation [2] |
| Audio | Two open-ear drivers; five-microphone array with wind-noise reduction [1][3] |
| Battery | 263 mAh silicon-anode cell; vendor-claimed 8.6 h combined, 8.5 h music, 7 h calls [2][3] |
| Charging | USB-C on the temple, chargeable while in use [1] |
| Hinge and fit | Titanium hinge with 12 degrees of outward flex, 4 degrees of frame adjustment [2] |
| Ingress | IP54 [2] |
| Colours | Tortoiseshell brown, parrot green and black; the first two are semi-transparent [1][2][3] |

Xiaomi breaks its 8.6-hour figure into a specific mixed-use day: 90 minutes of calls, 15 minutes of video, 50 photographs, 1,200 seconds of voice dialogue with XiaoAI and 20 image questions [2]. Those are vendor numbers, and no independent long-run battery test has been published. GSMArena put the runtime at roughly double the Ray-Ban Meta's [3].

A green status light on the inner right rim flashes while the camera runs, and its brightness is adjustable in the companion app; an October 2025 firmware update added an even dimmer setting [2][10]. It is the only signal a bystander gets that the camera is running, the same mechanism the rest of the category relies on. See [smart glasses and privacy](/wiki/smart_glasses_privacy).

## Software and the assistant

The glasses run openvela, the open-source release of Xiaomi's Vela IoT operating system, which the company lists alongside watches and earbuds as an openvela target [24]. The assistant is Super XiaoAI, the version of Xiaomi's long-running [voice assistant](/wiki/voice_assistant) rebuilt on [large language models](/wiki/large_language_model) and covered in more detail under [Xiaomi AI](/wiki/xiaomi_ai) [2][24].

Xiaomi has not named the model that answers on the glasses. Its 2025 annual report describes the architecture rather than the weights: a lightweight region-of-interest model runs [on the device](/wiki/on_device_ai) to pick out what matters in the camera feed, only the cropped region is uploaded, and a "hundred-billion-parameter [multimodal](/wiki/multimodal_model) large model" in the cloud does the interpretation, an arrangement the company frames as a compromise between response time and the compute available on a 40-gram frame [24]. That is consistent with, but not proof of, the [MiMo](/wiki/mimo_v2_5) family being involved.

Launch features covered image and text recognition, object, plant and animal identification, calorie estimation from a photograph of a meal, meeting transcription with templated summaries, location-aware questions about the surroundings, and simultaneous [interpretation](/wiki/machine_translation) between Chinese and ten other languages [1][2]. IT之家 found the interpretation ran through the cloud with 5 to 10 seconds of latency, and that transcription mangled newer proper nouns, rendering "Xiaomi SU7" as an unrelated homophone [2]. Camera handoff to a phone is the feature with no equivalent elsewhere: a Xiaomi phone can pull the glasses' camera into a WeChat video call or a livestream from the system device panel [2].

Two features shown at launch, scan-to-pay and parking-space memory, were absent from shipping units; IT之家 was told to expect both in an over-the-air update around August [2]. Alipay's "look-to-pay" arrived a month late, in firmware 1.2.31.0 on 8 September 2025, built jointly with Alipay and gated behind a spoken confirmation of the amount [9]. Firmware 1.3.13.0, in October 2025, added one-tap Bilibili livestreaming, hands-free call answering and a shot-quality check that warns when hair or a hat brim has blocked the lens [10].

In January 2026 Xiaomi opened a beta to 200 users adding [Ant Group](/wiki/ant_group)'s Afu health steward as a selectable agent, photo capture during voice recording, and voice-created calendar reminders [13]. Zhang Lei, general manager of Xiaomi's wearables department, confirmed at the end of that month that the build was in staged rollout [14].

## Pricing and distribution

| Variant | Launch price | Approx. USD, late July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 1,999 RMB | 296 |
| Single-colour electrochromic lens | 2,699 RMB | 400 |
| Multi-colour electrochromic lens (black, pink, blue, purple) | 2,999 RMB | 444 |

The electrochromic lens shipped from launch rather than arriving later. A double swipe across the frame with two fingers switches the tint, turning the glasses into sunglasses without a lens change [1][2].

China's consumer purchase subsidy applies. Trade coverage in June 2025 put the effective price at 1,699 RMB after the 15% wearables subsidy in participating regions, and 中国经济周刊 reported in January 2026 that both the Xiaomi glasses and Li Auto's Livis sold for no more than 1,700 RMB with the subsidy applied [5][15]. Prescription fitting runs through more than 400 partner optical shops plus an online service handling myopia up to 600 dioptres, hyperopia to 400 and astigmatism to 300 [6]. Li Chuangqi said in July 2025 that the glasses were stocked in several thousand of Xiaomi's 10,000-plus Xiaomi Home stores and in several hundred independent optical retailers [7].

The product has never been released outside China. Xiaomi exhibited it at the Eletrolar Show in Brazil on 22 June 2026, and Canaltech reported from the stand that it remained restricted to the Chinese market with no announced global date [22]. Xiaomi's separate Mijia Smart Audio Glasses, which have microphones and speakers but no camera, did go international, reaching Europe on 15 January 2026 at 179 to 199 euros [21]. IDC's global share figure for Xiaomi mixes the two lines together [18].

## Sales and market position

Xiaomi has published no unit total for the product. The figures that exist come from three different measurement systems and should not be added together; see [AI glasses market](/wiki/ai_glasses_market) for how the trackers differ.

| Source | Period | Basket measured | Xiaomi's position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Omdia | FY2025 | Global AI glasses, shipments | Third worldwide behind Meta and Rokid; no percentage published [16] |
| Xiaomi 2025 annual report, citing Omdia | FY2025 | AI glasses shipments | No. 3 globally and No. 1 in the Chinese Mainland [24] |
| IDC | Q1 2026 | Global smart glasses including audio and AR/VR, shipments | 3.1%, third behind Meta at 69.2% and [RayNeo](/wiki/rayneo) at 3.4% [18] |
| Counterpoint chart, read by IT之家 | Q1 2026 | China, display-less smart glasses, shipments | 28%, first, ahead of [Alibaba](/wiki/alibaba) at 21% and Li Auto at 3% [19][20] |
| CINNO Research | Q1 2026 | China, consumer AI and AR devices, retail sales | 7%, fifth, down 18% quarter over quarter [17] |

The Counterpoint number needs care. Counterpoint's English release for the first quarter of 2026 says only that "In China, Xiaomi (including Mijia) and Alibaba led the smart glasses market during the quarter" and gives no percentages in its text [19]. The 28% comes from a chart in the same release, headed "Smart Glasses OEM Shipments Share by Country" and sourced to Counterpoint's Smart Glasses Country Shipments Tracker, which IT之家 read off and put in its headline the following day [20]. It sits inside the section on display-less glasses, so it is a share of that segment rather than of all eyewear.

Early demand ran well ahead of Xiaomi's own forecast. Li Chuangqi told Sohu in July 2025 that the glasses sold out quickly, that volumes were several times the team's pessimistic estimate, and that the stock Xiaomi had built exceeded a full year's output for half the start-ups in the category [7][8]. He also conceded that the project chose expensive components throughout and that, while 1,999 RMB carried a gross margin, the effort was loss-making against total investment; he set a three-year goal of more than 5 million units a year [7]. SCMP, reporting the same interview, said around 50,000 units had sold across e-commerce and Xiaomi's own stores by 30 July 2025 [8]. A TechWeb commentary carried on Tencent News in December 2025 put the figure at 80,000 within half a month of launch, without saying where it came from [12]. The two conflict, and neither traces to a Xiaomi disclosure.

Momentum did not hold. CINNO Research measured Xiaomi's China sales in its consumer AI and AR basket falling 18% quarter over quarter in the first quarter of 2026, dropping the brand to fifth on 7% share, and attributed the decline explicitly to the absence of a new model [17]. RayNeo led that ranking on 24%, Rokid took 20% and [XREAL](/wiki/xreal) 14% [17]. No second-generation model had been identified as of 2 August 2026: searches of Chinese and English trade press, Xiaomi's China product pages, its global storefront and its own 2025 annual report turned up no successor and no display-equipped [waveguide](/wiki/waveguide_display) variant.

## Reception and criticism

Reviewers treated the hardware kindly and the software less so. IT之家 called the three-in-one combination of camera, open-ear headphones and assistant the most accomplished solution then available, while noting that image quality trails a flagship phone and that identification answers were sometimes wrong: asked about a car model, the assistant named it correctly but gave the wrong launch date [2].

中国经济周刊 tested products from Quark, Xiaomi, Rokid and others in January 2026 and reached a blunter verdict, headlining the section "usable, but not excellent". Its reporters found the promised practical functions impractical, said photo quality disappoints buyers accustomed to phone cameras, and reported that the large-model and translation features fail routinely. A buyer quoted in the piece who had used Rokid, Quark, Xiaomi and [Huawei](/wiki/huawei) glasses said the products were much the same as each other and advised waiting [15].

Category-wide complaints apply. The December 2025 TechWeb commentary cited industry figures of 30% to 50% return rates on some platforms, with battery life, heat and unstable connections the most common grievances [12]. 观察者网, carried by Sina Finance in July 2026, put the industry average at 30%, rising to 40% to 50% on livestream commerce channels, and noted that mainstream products cluster above 40 grams while runtimes collapse once AI features are switched on [23]. No return rate specific to the Xiaomi product has been published by a credible source, and the figures circulating on Chinese aggregator sites trace to no tracker or filing.

Price was a competitive lever in its own right. JD.com's half-year data showed the average selling price of smart glasses in China sliding from above 2,000 RMB to about 1,500 RMB across the first half of 2025 [15]. Discounting did not protect the position: by the last two weeks of March 2026, [Alibaba's G1 glasses](/wiki/alibaba_quark_ai_glasses), which Chinese trackers list under the Qianwen brand, held the top spot in online display-less sales [17]. See [AI glasses in China](/wiki/china_ai_glasses) for the wider contest.

Li Chuangqi left Xiaomi in October 2025. Jiemian reported the departure and Xiaomi confirmed it, saying the business structure was unchanged and the AI glasses programme unaffected [11]. He had joined the company in January 2011 as television product director and had run its audio-visual, smart office and digital consumer units before taking on wearables innovation [11].

## Place in Xiaomi's strategy

Xiaomi positions the glasses as a node in the Human x Car x Home framework rather than as a stand-alone gadget. The 2025 annual report describes Super XiaoAI on the glasses exercising "reverse control", using the eyewear as a control surface for phones, vehicles and Mijia home devices instead of only as a sensor [24]. In practice that means voice control of lights and air conditioning, alarms and calls set without touching a phone, and a steering-wheel button in a Xiaomi car that triggers the glasses' shutter [2]. The company also gave the glasses' architecture a Xiaomi Technology Award third prize for 2025 [24]. Set against group revenue of 457.3 billion RMB for 2025, up 25.0%, and research spending of 33.1 billion RMB, up 37.8%, the glasses business is small enough to disappear into the reporting: no revenue or unit figure for the product appears anywhere in the filing [24].
